This methane terminal project for Irving Oil’s Canaport LNG liquefied natural gas terminal in Saint-John, New Brunswick, needed the Béton Provincial team to develop a cryogenic concrete.
Cryogenic concrete is used to build liquefied gas reservoirs. This concrete must withstand thermal shocks on the order of 150 degrees Celsius for 30 to 60 minutes in order to prevent the gas from entering into contact with the air and exploding.
We were able to successfully create a concrete with the precise properties for the planned application.
